Divers are on the frontline
of climate change.

We see the impacts of climate change in the ocean firsthand. Yet, the dive community remains a powerful and untapped voice often left out of climate conversations.

Mission

VISION

To ensure that climate solutions reflect the voices and concerns of those closest to the ocean by empowering the dive community to influence climate policy at a local, national and international level.

Our vision is a climate-resilient

dive community in a thriving ocean.

What is climate resilience?

Climate resilience is the dive community’s ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to the impacts of climate change, and actively participate in shaping climate policy and solutions.

Our Story

Like many divers, our journey began with falling in love with the ocean. We played, worked, and explored beneath the surface. We did what we could to protect what we love - joining clean-ups, doing citizen science, taking photos, and helping with restoration. But as the oceans warmed, we started seeing changes we couldn’t ignore. It felt overwhelming, like the decisions that mattered most were out of our hands.

So in late 2020, we came together online - a small community of divers and tourism operators sharing stories, worries, and hope. From those conversations, Divers for Climate was born.

Community-Led

Today, we’re a community-led non-profit with thousands of divers across Australia and beyond, united in calling for stronger action on climate change. Together we’ve built a movement that connects frontline ocean experiences to climate policy and solutions, from grassroots campaigns to industry partnerships and political advocacy.

Our story is still being written, but the heart of it will always be grounded in community - divers, coming together to make sure that what we see below the surface shapes the decisions made above.

HOw We Work

We believe divers can be powerful agents of change. When we equip the dive community to understand and respond to local climate impacts, and support them to influence decisions at every level, their voices shape the public and political conversation. This ensures that the concerns of those closest to the ocean are heard, and that climate solutions protect both people and the planet.

Divers for Climate acknowledge Indigenous and First Nations people as the first custodians, scientists and explorers of the ocean, and recognise their continuing connection with the land and sea. We recognise that Indigenous people are disproportionately bearing the brunt of ocean climate impacts and must play a key role in solutions. We commit to listening to, learning from and amplifying Indigenous knowledge and wisdom in all our endeavours. Divers for Climate was inspired by and created on the land and sea country of the Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji, Yirriganydji and Gunggandji people. We pay our respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.
