World oceans week 2024 launch events

We celebrated World Ocean's Week with a bang by premiering the short film "Divers for Climate", filmed and produced by The Undertow Media, and officially launching Divers for Climate as a non-profit organisation in Sydney, Cairns, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

We brought together over five hundred divers to share their underwater climate stories, hear from local ocean legends and engage in our favourite kind of climate conversation - how the ocean community can come together to create waves of change. We were stoked with the response we received from these events and the support from the community so far. It truly proved just how powerful the dive community is.

Now that we've launched - stay tuned to find out what comes next!

reef & climate forums with the Australian Marine Conservation Society

During the summer of 2024, while the Great Barrier Reef was facing extreme temperatures and another coral bleaching event was unfolding, we joined forces with the Australian Marine Conservation Society to provide a safe space for the community to come together, ask questions and voice their concerns. Across two SOLD-OUT events in Cairns and Port Douglas, over 170 divers and tourism workers heard from the experts about the health and future of the Reef, and deeply engaged in conversations about what actions we can all take moving forward.

Our passion and love for places like the Great Barrier Reef was loud and clear - divers want to see more ambitious climate action that protects people and oceans.

Divers for Climate acknowledge Indigenous and First Nations people as the first custodians, scientists and explorers of the ocean, and recognise their continuing connection with the land and sea. We recognise that Indigenous people are disproportionately bearing the brunt of ocean climate impacts and must play a key role in solutions. We commit to listening to, learning from and amplifying Indigenous knowledge and wisdom in all our endeavours. Divers for Climate was inspired by and created on the land and sea country of the Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji, Yirriganydji and Gunggandji people. We pay our respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.

*Divers for Climate manages donations consistent with their policy to not act as a mere conduit. Any allocation of funds or property to other persons or organisations will be made in accordance with the established purposes of the organisation and not be influenced by the preference of the donor.
